The most prominent remains of the Hadrian's Roman Wall World Heritage Site are to be found in this section of Northumberland. In this dramatic setting that was once the Northern Frontier of the Roman Empire, resides a friendly and welcoming people. This is a fantastic landscape with rolling hills and wide open countryside that has a particular appeal for those who appreciate fresh air and walking in the outdoors. There are walks for every level of walker, from the short walk for all the family, to the ascent some of some of the highest peaks - try a guided coffee shop walk or explore the natural world through verse and music and visit welcoming coffee shops, tea rooms and cafes at Simonburn, Chollerford, Horsley and Kirkharle. At Kirkharle, birthplace of Capability Brown, you will find a range of facinating craft shops where you can watch the artists at work. If it is art that you love you can spend an afernoon at the fifiefofum gallery or at the Horsley Print Makers.

You can treat yourself to fresh farm grown produce and a comprehensive range of in-season and exotic fresh fruit and vegetables from the reknowned Brockbushes Farm or take the Real Ale Tour at High House Farm Brewery to learn how beer is made and enjoy the award winning results. You can learn to drive a black Friesian horse and an elegant carriages or hire them for a special event from Carriagehorses of Wark. If you wish to be actively involved there are numerous workshops and courses for entertainment and education.

This section of Northumberland is one of the least populated and unspoilt areas of England yet it is a treasure trove of holiday activities and in easy reach of the city of Newcastle.
